As a single parent with little help from the other parent, childcare was expensive in most cases. So, I worked at night, and he stayed home, cutting my hours. I wasn’t able to oversee his schoolwork. At first, it was fine, but it wasn’t fun to sleep in the day. Once he could call me on the cell phone if he needed, I stayed home, and he was getting home days. Now that he got home before I did, I would work. Being home was after school reach. He was able to get a snack before doing his homework. Wrong from September to December, the teachers saw his grades going down. And throughout the last two years I needed help. I wasn’t going to lose my son and have him be labeled. So, I looked for help. They have an after-school program that works with the kids. They also teach martial arts. When he was five, I knew right away that this was the place for us. God, they have snacks, and the kids know what the parents teach at home, and homework is done and handed in on time. The flip mouth is gone. I thank God for all the people that make this program possible. We need more of this. I believe there is good in every child. Make the chance for your child. Give the child the chance before they become a statistic. Call Unified Taekwondo on Scottsville Road or go visit.
