As a single parent with little help from the other parent, childcare was expensive in most cases. So, I worked at night, and he stayed home, cutting my hours. I wasn’t able to oversee his schoolwork. At first, it was fine, but it wasn’t fun to sleep in the day. Once he could call me on the cell phone if he needed, I stayed home, and he was getting home days. Now that he got home before I did, I would work. Being home was after school reach. He was able to get a snack before doing his homework. Wrong from September to December, the teachers saw his grades going down. And throughout the last two years I needed help. I wasn’t going to lose my son and have him be labeled. So, I looked for help. They have an after-school program that works with the kids. They also teach martial arts. When he was five, I knew right away that this was the place for us. God, they have snacks, and the kids know what the parents teach at home, and homework is done and handed in on time. The flip mouth is gone. I thank God for all the people that make this program possible. We need more of this. I believe there is good in every child. Make the chance for your child. Give the child the chance before they become a statistic. Call Unified Taekwondo on Scottsville Road or go visit.

We want to take this time to thank you for the time, energy, and prayers that you have invested in Miles. There is no doubt in our minds that God placed you in his life to help him realize all that he should go. Many, many special days be blessed.

Dear Mr. McKinney,

I know that you are surprised to hear from me in this way. I just wanted to thank you so very much for all of the help that you have given me with starting my own program in Hollywood the past few months. Well, my program, outside of belonging to GOD, because as you know, we really don’t own anything. It’s just a figure of speech. It all belongs to the Highest, including the talents that He has blessed me with at being great at what I do. Thanks to your help and being a prime example as an instructor, businessman, mentor, martial artist, friend, and a God-fearing man; I have been able to grow in all of those areas. Give credit where credit is due, give thanks where thanks is due. You have been there for me to help me along the way, and you have never turned me away. Even though I probably ran up your cell phone bill a time or two (smile) bill me for that one.

Sir, I am in Prague, Czech Republic right now training Matt Damon (the actor) for the film Bourne Identity 2. God has really been blessing me with good things and good people in my life. I will be here for about 4 months or so, if it continues to go well.

Can you read this letter to your students? Only because I could not be there in person to give you your much-deserved plaque. I would like for them to know how much you and God have helped me along even though I still have a long way to go. Also, how your work as a martial artist does not stop inside of the Do-jang but transcends to your everyday life by the way that you, Sir, treat people. Thank you, Sir. And God bless.

Dear Mr. McKinney,

I want to thank you for everything that you’re doing for me. This fundraising tournament will help me so much because going to nationals is really expensive. You have always been there for me throughout the years and when I make it big in LA, I’ll be there for you. I’ll never forget my roots because they have made me into the dancer I am today. I’m so glad that my mom put me in Tae Kwon-Do because without it I most likely wouldn’t be where I’m at in life right now. Thank you again for making this sacrifice for me, it is greatly appreciated.

Mr. McKinney,

I like to say thank-you for playing A very important role in my son’s life. When Calvin came to your school shy young who had retreated within himself, you took him under your Wing and gave him the confidence that he needs to express himself through the Martial training that made him into A very aggressive man to go after what was right and good in his life. Compete high and to get a job, buy a car and now in the U.S. Navy. Mr. McKinney when people speak of role model, well you are on top of my list. I would just like to thank you

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to try by best in Unified Taekwondo, I really appreciate it. So much, I will never forget the way I fooled around & that I had fun at the pool from the food from the pool. I try my best and work hard and practice. You are just like a father because when I do the wrong thing you handle me but when I do the right thing you always compliment me. I love you for teaching me write I am very grateful for it.

Dear Uncle Dwayne,

Thank you so much for all that you have done for me these past years. I appreciate it greatly. There have been times when it was hard & times when it was fantastic, so I won’t complain. In working here, I have learned about how to work with children and co-workers and finally about myself and my strengths and weaknesses. I owe much of that to you, so I thank you so much for that. As I go off to school you will be one of the people, I will miss the most. I love you so much.

Dear McKinney,

I have had the best two weeks of Taekwondo I have had in a long time. Thank you for all you have showed me like front snap kick, side kick and four directions front and side kick. I will come back some day and stay until I get a red stripe.
